EXODUS. Open Call for artists

EXODUS. On the way to Liberation

Information for participants

The Biblical Museum and Buitenplaats Doornburgh invite all artists, currently living and working in the Netherlands, to submit artworks for its EXODUS Open Call. The title refers to the collection of stories about Moses who led his people out of Egypt and slavery, as told in the Bible, Thora and Koran. The story of EXODUS shares much common ground with urgent societal issues, such as fleeing your country, slavery and liberation, leadership and trust. Furthermore, EXODUS also relates to spiritual themes.

Open Call

The focus of EXODUS is on the group exhibition EXODUS. On the way to liberation in the former convent of Buitenplaats Doornburgh near Utrecht. The exhibition will be organized by means of this Open Call:

Present, in your own way, in a discipline of your own choosing, one of the themes, stories or characters from EXODUS, the way you imagine it.

All artists, currently living and working in the Netherlands – no matter which art discipline – are welcome to submit new OR existing work until November 15 2022 through www.exodus.nu.

Designs for work, yet to be made, are welcome too. One artists’ residence is available for an artist who would like to further explore and create an artwork based on a design submitted and accepted.

Please note:
participating is ONLY possible through www.exodus.nu

Submissions will be judged by a curating committee, led by Yuki Kho. The committee will assess the works on the basis of artistic quality, imagination, power of expression, professional execution and the ability to appeal to the general public. Sixty works will be shown online on this website as EXODUS, the online presentation. A selected 24 artworks will be exhibited in EXODUS. On the way to Liberation in Buitenplaats Doornburgh near Utrecht from 24 March 2023, for a period of six months.

Rewards and preconditions

The Biblical Museum will reward all artists selected, whether their artworks will be presented in the EXODUS online presentation or in the EXODUS exhibition in a fair manner.

How to take part in the EXODUS Open Call

Visit www.exodus.nu and fill in the Deelnameformulier (Application form).
Due to the fact that the organizing committee has limited resources, we welcome submissions in English, yet we are unable to offer all our information in English or in other languages. On this website you will find information (in Dutch), such as application form, preconditions & inspirational themes. We hope for your understanding.

The initiators of EXODUS would like to touch people’s hearts and gently confront, inspire and encourage them. And show them how art can make a significant contribution to society in times of unrest and change.

The EXODUS Open Call was made possible in part by
Vermeulen Brauckman Stichting, Mondriaan Fonds, Doopsgezind Predikfonds Haarlem, Rita and Rudolf Boon-Schillingfonds, Stichting Zabawas and the Friends of Biblical Museum.
